Heroes of Healing

A Pain Survivor Community

Hi All! I just wanted to check in to see how everyone was feeling this week. I really hope you are beginning to connect and reach out to each other, because we are all in this together. Each of us is a survivor looking for a way to stay optimistic and hopeful. And we all have much to offer one another!!

With that said, here are a few more questions I would like you to ponder and answer! Sending love and healing wishes to you all--

  1. How long have you been courageously living with pain?
  2. Are you fan of reality TV (and be honest!)? If so, which shows are your favorites?
  3. What are two healing techniques that have helped you cope with the pain?
  4. Are you a morning or night person?
  5. What is one thing that motivates you to keep fighting?

I hope everyone answers these questions:

1) This is a great way to put it, I wish I could personally feel couragous but it has been almost 7 years, April 30, 2003 was the day it started.

2) I would like to say I dont watch any of that crap, but i would be lieing, it is like a guilty pleasure: Groomer has it, Jersey Shore(only becasue they remind me of people I grew up with), First season of apprentice, Peoples Court,

3) Meditation and Guided Imagery with proper breathing

4) I am a all day person, LOL! Since my pain journey began my sleep has been disturbed and have not been the same, basically I have a constant day with periods of sleep, but I love early mornings very peaceful and quite

5) Hope! Helping others through my experience.
1. 16 years this past December.. 12/16/93.. seems like forever ago

2. I do like some of the reality shows.. housewives of Nj was a hoot! Got dragged into it by my daughter.. Jersey Shore is "out there".. loved the original Real World but haven't watched in years

3. When I can I distract myself.. if I do some art work and get in my "zone" I am not so aware of pain.. I also just try to keep pushing and staying busy.. This doesn't always work, tho. I try my best not to be a prisoner of pain..

4. I used to definately be a night person.. Now I barely sleep so I don't really know.. Would love to find out, tho.

5. My biggest motivator is my daughters. I want them to see that mom tried to keep going no matter what. I want to teach them never to give up. I always tell them that the mind is the strongest part of your body.
That is so wonderful you do art work, You should post of of your art so we all can see and enjoy. So happy to hear that you can get some pain relief by doing something you love. I have no doubt your daughters are very proud of you and know you try. What a great lesson to teach them to never give up hope. Thank you so much for sharing, you should be very proud of your self.
Art has always been my salvation.. it's my happy place.. i will post some pics when i get a chance.. haven't taken any pics in a long time.. have to either take some or go on a hunt.. lol thanks for your encouragement, Paul.. I truly appreciate it! Hope is so true as well.. I always tell my daughters without hope there is nothing. I believe that is where it starts.. hope and a dream, then work to make it reality..
1. Alden (age 11) has had pain since she was 4. It gradualy worsened but full blown at age 9. Cameron (age 9) briefly had RSD this year but was healed by Dr. Rhodes completely.
2. my kids are too young for reality tv and I don't like it either!
3. Alden reads...A LOT....fantasy books, Harry Potter got her through the worst times...now she is reading the Percy Jackson series. Warm baths help relax her also. Prayer too.
4. Alden is definitely a night person, it is so difficult to get her up in the mornings!
5. HOPE and faith....believing this will not be my children's lot in life, believing in healing before it is manifest. This is NOT God's will for them and I refuse to believe otherwise!
That is so great she enjoys to read and that she had something to help her get through the bad times. Sounds like they are very brave as well as very lucky to have a mom who fights for them each day. Never give up hope, and I am praying and wishing for you and your children. I cant imagine how hard it must be for you but I know they are in the best hands being with you. Your love is easy to see for them and that will make them heal. God Bless you and Thank you for sharing.
Thank you. they are both in remission thanks to the best doctor in the world! With the really cold weather we have had in NC, Alden has done amazingly well! A few bad episodes here and there but nothing worth mentioning compared to the good days! Both are doing normal activities now, riding horses, dancing....Alden now wants to do gymnastics!! I'm not sure I'm ready for that, it makes me nervous! but, I have to let them live their lives and won't live in fear of RSD!
i am so glad that both Alden and Cameron are doing well!! To me there is nothing worse than a baby or child being in pain!!! I am glad you found the best doctor for them.. You have my thoughts and prayers for their continued good heath!
Faith, love & hope the greatest is love.. A mothers love is precious. Alden & Cameron are truly blessed to have a mother with so much love & so much Faith. I watched a friend go through RSD with her two boys it was not until I read your story. That I remembered they battled RSD one is completely healed & his older brother still struggles but is far better then he was at 6 years old he is now 13. I think about my pain & honestly cannot imagine watching small children go through excruciating pain..Being a mom myself.. I am glad they are doing well. I am new in HOH. I will keep them in prayer & on my prayer list. It's a true Blessing to hear all they are doing now.. Blessing & Hugs~ Nancy
OMG Hi Anita, Would you mind telling me where Dr. Rhodes is? If he's all you say he is, I needed him a long time ago and would sure love to see him.....I live in NC also! How exciting! Kim
Hi! I'm having a bit of a tough week, pain wise. Otherwise, I'm doing quite well, thank you. How are you?

1. About 5 years now... although it hasn't always been courageously.

2. Some of them, absolutely! I adore Project Runway, Hell's Kitchen and Kitchen Nightmares.

3. Prayers and focused breathing.

4. Night - but dh is a morning person, and he forces his lifestyle on me.

5. My sons! I want to see them marry and I want grandkids!
i have never been able to conquer the breathing thing.. although i did practice lamaze to get me thru panic attacks years ago.. it worked :) it's a weird feeling not to have control of your body!! I agree with you about grandchildren, can't wait for them!! I just love babies and cannot even fathom how much love I would have to give a grandchild! how old are your sons? 5 years is a long time to be in pain. I hope things get better for you!! sending positive thoughts your way! ~~Paula~~
