A Pain Survivor Community
Hi All!
I have just finished reading the book "Left Neglected" by Lisa Genova. It tells the story of a young woman who, as the result of a car accident, has to learn to live her life in the "new normal".
She has a brain injury that is very ODD, which, I think is a lot of
what is appealing to me, in this story. The whole concept of a brain that just does not acknowledge that there is a "Left" (in her universe) is compelling, to me. How can that work??
How the woman adapts and adjusts to all the change in her world is a tribute to human perseverance .
I saw a lot of myself in this story. We go through life thinking that things HAVE to be a certain way. We are convinced that various arbitrary "standards" and "measures" of our Success reflect our worth. I think that this story gives us a unique opportunity to see how clouded and misguided those standards can be! When it is all "said and done", what really is Important?
I wanted to reccommend this book to anyone in the group who struggles with the "after" part of Life! (Or, what I refer to as the "Then What?" Chapters:)
