A Pain Survivor Community

Not only is today Valentine's Day, but it is also mine and my husband's 19th wedding anniversary. Some people have asked us what we think is the secret to a happy marriage and honestly, I don't think there is any secret to it at all. There are alot of different factors involved in a marriage such as respect, honesty, compromise and communication, just to name a few. We have most definately had our ups and downs along the way - just like every other married couple. It takes alot of hard work to make a marriage survive in this day and age.  Just think ... couples who are tying the knot now have a 50-50 chance on making it last. It certainly isn't like it was in the good old days when couples stuck it out no matter what!

So many different emotions have come into our marriage since my injury in 2006. Feelings of guilt, isolation and even anger have all shown their sometimes ugly faces ... I feel guilty at becoming disabled; we as a couple feel somewhat isolated from other couples as we cannot take part in alot of the different events and activities that we once could; and we are both angry at the entire situation. But we love each other so very much, and we are committed and determined to work through all of these emotions one day at a time.

On our special day, we will celebrate by me cooking a special meal of shrimp scampi for Bob, and then later this evening we will watch our wedding video. We have watched our video every single year on our anniversary without skipping a single year!.  We will laugh together, and then I will cry, as usual. It brings back so many wonderful and happy memories ..........

Thank you both so much for your wishes! Bob and I had a very nice evening and yes, I did cry again this year while watching our wedding video. They were such happy times for us and it's so nice to look back on that very special day. It is always so wonderful to look back, but today, back to reality!
